Threaded Rod Buying Checklist
Ordering threaded rod requires more than a diameter and a photograph. Define the rod, its mating components and the shipment requirements before requesting a quotation.
01 / Identify the rod and thread
A fully threaded rod has thread along its body and no bolt head. Confirm the required geometry; a double-end stud or a drawing-based part may need a different specification. Bolt Depot’s metric threaded rod reference illustrates the product type; it does not establish SPM stock or material availability.

| Diameter and units | State nominal diameter and whether the thread is metric or inch. Identify the thread system when using pitch or threads-per-inch notation. |
| Pitch and thread | State pitch, thread standard and tolerance requirements. Identify thread direction where specified. |
| Overall length | Give overall rod length, units and permitted length tolerance. Identify full-length rods versus cut-to-length pieces. |
| Ends and geometry | Include chamfer, end condition, deburring and special features on the drawing. |
| Standard | Specify DIN 976-1 and the required edition if applicable, or provide a drawing. Do not assume another standard or legacy designation is automatically interchangeable. |
02 / Specify grade and finish
List the material designation and property class or mechanical requirements separately from dimensions. State finish, coating requirements and required inspection documents. Material, grade, size and finish availability are Confirmed per order.
For matching nuts, include thread specification and mechanical requirements. For washers, provide dimensions and material requirements. Final compatibility needs review against the assembly; this checklist does not establish a load rating or tightening torque.
03 / Ask for length-appropriate packing
Long rods need packing suited to their length, quantity and handling. Do not assume cartons used for short bolts are suitable for long rods. State whether pieces need individual protection, bundling or grouping by size, and include label requirements.
Pack type, pieces per pack, protection, net and gross weights, pallet or bundle dimensions and handling arrangements are Confirmed per order. Request confirmed packed dimensions and gross weight before comparing freight quotations.
